Mental Model Atlas is an open project dedicated to constructing a “Map of Thought” within the Japanese-speaking sphere.
In our complex modern society, we aim to provide an “Intellectual OS” to facilitate better decision-making and essential problem-solving.
Rather than a mere accumulation of information, we are building a “Thinking Toolbox” centered on the following three pillars:
On this site, each mental model is uniquely scored across four dimensions. This serves as a guide (contour line) to help you determine “which thinking tool to pick up right now.”
| Item | Description | 1 (Min) | 5 (Max) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Versatility | Degree of general applicability | Limited to specific fields | Universal across all domains |
| Immediacy | Speed of effect after learning | Requires long-term practice | Usable the moment you learn it |
| Difficulty | Complexity of the concept | Intuitively understood | Requires high-level abstraction |
| Misuse Risk | Danger of misinterpretation | Low potential for harm | Risk of backfiring or mental bias |
Note: These scores are “provisional values” based on the editorial team’s subjective assessment. Since they vary depending on the user’s context, please use them as a general reference.
This “Map” is a work in progress. We welcome your feedback, including pointers on misuse risks or proposals for new models. GitHub
